Kirsten Dunst Is ‘In’ For ‘Spider-Man 4′

30 09 2008

So there have been rumors flying around that Toby Maguire and Sam Raimi are returning for a 4th (and possibly 5th) Spider-Man film, but when asked about a role in a fourth Spider-Man film, Kirsten Dunst was quoted by MTV saying, ‘I’m in.’ Previously, she’s stated that she would not want to be included in a sequel if Sam and Toby were not involved, but her recent statement has hinted that they’ll be making a return. She recently told EW, “Audiences aren’t stupid. It’d be a big flop without me, Tobey, or Sam.” I hope the team can redeem themselves after a shitty Spider-Man 3, but perhaps the franchise has been exhausted. I’d hate to see them make a 4th and 5th movie for the sake of making up for their flop.

‘I Am Legend’ Prequel Greenlit

25 09 2008

For some reason, unbeknownst to me, Warner Bros. has decided to green light a sequel to last year’s I Am Legend. The film will depict Robert Neville (Will Smith is signed to reprise his role) in the final days before the virus takes over New York City. Personally, I’d rather see Francis Lawrence focus on getting Survivor made, but Survivor’s been put on the back burner for years now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes another 10 years to get it made, especially when Warner Bros. can put out some grade A material like an I Am Legend prequel instead. Hooray for us.

The ‘Quantum of Solace’ Theme Song Sucks

22 09 2008

The theme for the upcoming Bond movie, Quantum of Solace was released recently and barely made it out of the gate. Almost immediately, Bond fans bashed the song and seem to agree that it’s the worst Bond theme ever released. Despite rumors that Amy Winehouse would be performing the opening track, the song, “Another Way To Die” was written and recorded by Jack White and Alicia Keys and, I have to agree, the song sucks big time. The two of them separately are fairly talented musicians, but together, they make me want to stick a screwdriver in each of my ears. Good thing it’s only the theme. Once we get past it, we’ll be able to see all the high speed chases and stuff blowing up.

UPDATE: The music video sucks too.

Trailer for ‘The Soloist’

11 09 2008

Okay, so the movie tells the true(ish) story about a homeless man (Foxx), who was a musical prodigy until he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the down-on-his-luck journalist (Downey Jr.) who befriends him and writes a column about him in the newspaper which ultimately brings them both success and happiness. There’s been a lot of talk about this movie being ‘Oscar bait,’ but it looks to Hollywood for me. All I know is I love Robert Downey Jr. and I’ll probably see this movie.

‘The Dark Knight’ To Come Back To The Big Screen

11 09 2008

And by ‘big screen,’ I mean the friggin’ gigantic IMAX screen. That’s right. In January, Warner Bros. plans to rerelease The Dark Knight as a reminder just in time for awards season. The DVD is already set to be released in time for the holiday season, so who knows how many people are going to want to go back and see it again on the IMAX screen? I probably will. Actually, what I’d really like to see is The Dark Knight beating Titanic’s record. Maybe we can get both. One can certainly hope.

Poster for ‘Leaves of Grass’

9 09 2008

So Edward Norton is going to be playing twin brothers (one a philosophy professor, the other a pothead). Could be good. Oh and I didn’t know Tim Blake Nelson was a writer/director. To me, he’s always that guy from Minority Report or O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Harold Ramis Confirms ‘Ghostbusters 3′

8 09 2008

Okay, so Harold Ramis wrote an email to Mark Caro, writer for the Chicago Tribune, confirming a new Ghostbusters film:

“yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we’ll take it from there. best, harold”

I still hate the idea of this movie being made, but I guess one redeeming factor is that the original cast (except Ernie Hudson?) are going to be involved on some level. Whatever. I can’t stop them. I guess the only thing we can do now is cross our fingers and hope for the best (the best being a cancellation of the movie’s production).

Harvey Dent Is ‘Dead As A Door Nail’

4 09 2008

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Aaron Eckhart revealed that his character, Harvey Dent/Two-Face will not be returning for another movie since his character is officially dead.

From ComingSoon.net:

“CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?

Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.

CS/SHH!: So he’s not coming back?
Eckhart: He ain’t coming back baby!

CS/SHH!: I was hoping he would.
Eckhart: No. I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, “You’re dead” before I could even get the question out of my mouth. “Hey Chris, am I?” “You’re dead!” Alright, cool.

CS/SHH!: That’s not a problem in comic book movies. You could still come back.
Eckhart: I think in contract negotiations it’s a problem.

CS/SHH!: So you were never signed on for another film?
Eckhart: No, I’m not coming back. I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn’t work out. I’m nobody. I’m a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff.”

So there you have it. Straight from the horse’s mouth. Harvey Dent is dead. Well, now that I finally know for sure, maybe I’ll be able to get some sleep.

Dan Aykroyd On ‘Ghostbusters 3′

4 09 2008

If there’s anything more annoying than shitty remakes, it’s the rebooting of decades-old franchises. While more Ghostbusters movies would’ve been enjoyable 18 years ago, I think it’s kind of a dead issue now. It’s been almost 20 years since Ghostbusters 2 was released in 1989. Regardless, it looks like the studio execs have a different opinion since apparently, a script is currently in the works.

Dan Aykroyd had this to say:

“Well, y’know, two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream.”

Now, I’m a pretty big fan of Judd Apatow and company, but I don’t think they’re the solution for everything. I can’t imagine them making a sequel that stays true to the franchise. Like I said, the Ghostbusters are a dead issue to me. I think it’s best to leave it alone at this point, but who am I?

‘Milk’ Trailer

4 09 2008

I’m on the fence with Gus Van Sant. Elephant was brilliant, but Psycho, not so much. I don’t think he’s the most consistent director I’ve ever seen, but when he’s good, he’s very good. His next film, Milk, is about the true story of a man named Harvey Milk (Sean Penn) who was the first homosexual to run for a political office in San Francisco in the 1970s. The film will depict Harvey Milk’s conflict with the homophobic city supervisor, Dan White (Josh Brolin) as well as the threats made on his life. Other stars include Emile Hirsch and James Franco.

The trailer looks amazing. I really hope this film turns out to be as good as it looks.

‘Transformers 2′ First Day Of Filming

4 09 2008

If you didn’t think Michael Bay was a tool already, this video should certainly change your mind. Here’s the guy on the first day of filming the sequel to Transformers (aptly named Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen) explaining “Bay-haos.” We can thank Nike for reinforcing his self-loving tooliness.

Poster And Red-Band Trailer For ‘Zack And Miri Make A Porno’

3 09 2008

I might be one of the few people on the planet (let alone one of the few who writes a movie blog) who hasn’t seen a Kevin Smith flick. Not that I have anything against the man. I just haven’t gotten around to seeing any of his films. That being said, I think I’m going to have to see Zack and Miri. It looks friggin’ hilarious. I mean, Star Whores? Brilliance!
