The Bad & Ugly posted the first images leaked out from Guy Richie’s new film, Sherlock Holmes. Jude Law is almost unrecognizable as Watson, but oddly enough, Robert Downey Jr. looks kinda like he did about 10 years ago before he started rehab. Whatever. I love Robert Downey Jr., so I’ll be waiting in line for this movie for sure. What’s most interesting, though, is how Richie is deviating from his usual, British gangster movies. I’m curious to see how this turns out.
Robert Downey Jr. has become one of my favorite actors in past years and now, with Iron Man catapulting him into the spot light, it looks like he’s finally going to be getting some much deserved attention. He is currently set to star in Guy Ritchie’s drama about the famous literary detective Sherlock Holmes, which will begin shooting this October, right before the Sherlock Holmes comedy starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell. A release is projected to be sometime in 2010.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what Guy Ritchie does with Sherlock Holmes, but with an actor like Robert Downey Jr., how can you go wrong?
A few weeks ago, it was announced that Guy Ritchie (dir. Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels; Snatch) would be directing a film about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective, Sherlock Holmes. Think about that. Let it digest a little bit. Guy Ritchie. Sherlock Holmes. God knows what the hell is going to come of that. One can only imagine. I don’t know if I’m prepared to make a decision about that yet.
However, I imagine it being exponentially better than what Columbia Pictures and Judd Apatow have in mind. Apparently, Columbia plans to release a comedy about Detective Holmes and his trusty side-kick, Watson starring Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Sweeney Todd) and Will Ferrell (Anchorman, Talladega Nights) respectively. Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) is currently penning the script.
Who knows when this monstrosity will be released. All I know is Will Ferrell is spreading through Hollywood like cancer and must be stopped at any cost.
